STOP LINE 3 COLLAGES
Line 3 is one of the largest crude oil pipelines in the world, carrying up to 915,000 barrels per day of one of the dirtiest fuels, tar sands. The pipeline goes through Michigan and the White Earth Nation, which is Ojibwe and Anishinaabe land. The pipeline threatens the water they drink, the wild rice they harvest, as well as worsening the climate crisis for us all. Enbridge, the Canadian company building this pipeline, has had over 300 spills over the last 15 years and decided not to clean up the corroding Line 3 pipeline that threatens lives, while instead building a brand new pipeline right next to it. Water protectors around the country have been protesting this pipeline for years, putting their lives on the line to achieve justice.
3rd and 5th graders at a Portland Public School created incredible Stop Line 3 artwork and wrote letters to the Governor of Michigan, demanding to stop the pipeline and stand up for their futures. They made collages, from their suminagashi prints (which is a Japanese style of marbling), to educate the Vernon community about the harmfulness of Line 3. In this project, we learned that Water is Life and that we can and must use our voices to demand a better future.
